MDOT is in the Real Estate Business!
The first of its kind, the Maryland Department of Transportation was created specifically to coordinate priority and financing for all forms of Maryland public transportation, on behalf of the Governor and Legislature. The State Highway Administration (SHA), Maryland Port Administration (MPA), Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA), and Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) all became business units within MDOT that we call Modes.
The MDOT Office of Real Estate has evolved to an oversight and transaction oriented section with specific responsibilities to:
- Dispose of excess real estate owned by the Maryland Department of Transportation
- Promote development around our transit stations
- Promote port related development
- Develop special projects that are core to the needs of MDOT or that foster Maryland`s economic development.
